If you are looking to redecorate or renovate your home in 2019, keep reading.  If you are not familiar with www.houzz.com, you need to look it up.  I have researched several of their recent articles to come up with the following trends.

Kitchen – 1. Style: the number 1 style is transitional (traditional and contemporary), 2 is contemporary, and a very close 3rd style is farm house.

2. Cabinets: The shaker style cabinets are the top style with flat-panel coming in second.  As for cabinet colors, white or cream color is the number one color with wood following.  Grey, white and wood is another popular combination.

3. Countertops:  Engineered Quartz was crowned the number one countertop over Granite in 2018.

4. Metals:  The majority of renovating homeowners are mixing metal finishes in their fixtures  and cabinet and door hardware.  Matte nickel is the top choice.

Bath – Tubs: There’s been a lot of debate over the years over whether you should keep a bathtub when remodeling your bathroom. But it’s clear that those who enjoy taking baths really enjoy taking baths. The freestanding tub is now the tub of choice in the high-end baths.

Wood: Wood vanities help bring a large dose of warmth. And while wooden vanities aren’t new, what’s catching on is a turn away from dark stained and lacquered vanities — toward reclaimed wood or light wood with clear stains that celebrate the details of the grain.

Shiplap: Painted shiplap, usually in grays or dark blues, is showing up a lot. It’s a great look for bathrooms because it adds texture, dimension and character.

Tile: Moroccan tile floors. Moroccan-patterned tile has been a popular choice for kitchen backsplashes and fireplace surrounds for years now. Increasingly, though, it’s showing up in large swaths as bathroom flooring. You get the clean feel of tile with all the color and style of a bold rug.

Color – There’s been a sharp turn toward deeper, darker, moodier shades such as navy, black and forest greens. It’s a reaction against all the whites and brights that have been popular for so long.
